Dr. Shirley Davis
Director of Diversity Initiatives
Society for Human Resource Management
As Director of Diversity Initiatives, Shirley acts as the SHRM "thought leader" on global diversity issues and will be working to position
SHRM as the leader in the diversity field. She designs and implements innovative diversity initiatives to further both the ATP (Advance the
Profession) and STP (Serve the Professional) portions of SHRM's overall strategy. Shirley also acts as the staff leader to the Diversity
Special Expertise Panel; the liaison to SHRM's Diversity Advisory Council, the SHRM Diversity Conference; and the representative of
SHRM's Diversity Initiative to the public.
Shirley has more than 15 years of experience in Human Resources, Organizational & Leadership Development and Diversity
Management. She has led such functions Training & Education, Leadership Development, Performance Management, Recruiting,
Change Management, Strategic Planning and Global Diversity. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Law, a Master's Degree in Human
Resources Management, and a Ph.D. in Business and Organization Management.
Shirley held such positions as Director of Diversity at Constellation Energy; several leadership positions at Capital One, including Senior
Manager of HR and Diversity; Training Director, Sr. Change Consultant, and Sr. HR Consultant; she was a Sr. HR Analyst and Management
Development Consultant at Circuit City Headquarters; and worked in the banking industry for 10 years.
Shirley is a member of numerous professional organizations and is very active in her church, community and family. She travels across the
country and internationally, speaking to business and community leaders, corporate executives and other professionals. She's a former Ms.
American United States, Miss District of Columbia and Ms. Oklahoma.
